MARIANNE KARMEL – PHOTOGRAPHER

About my Cape Cod landscapes:

As a summer resident on the Outer Cape for over 30 years, I spend many days and hours studying the unique light and vistas that make the Cape distinctive.

I have studied at the Castle Hill Center for the Arts in Truro, complementing my photography with ceramics and painting in watercolor.

My favorite artists include Edward Hopper and Winslow Homer.

I began my exploration of photography in the darkroom, using the Ansel Adams zone theory to compose black and white pictures. With the arrival of the digital age I was excited to turn to color photography.

My starting point is usually a “straight” digital photograph with a dramatic, asymmetrical composition. I then adjust the color gradients to create luminous hues enriching the image. The final result is somewhere in between is a photograph and a painting. .

In addition to landscapes I work as a portrait photographer in the Boston Metro area.
